The Division of Cardiology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital provides comprehensive consultative, diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with or at high risk for cardiovascular disease. We focus on diagnosis, acute and chronic medical management, and preventive services.
The Elfers Cardiovascular Center is a clinical collaboration between the Cardiology and Vascular Surgery divisions at Newton-Wellesley and Massachusetts General Hospital and Newton-Wellesley's Radiology Department. It is a robust, multidisciplinary disease center dedicated to the prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular disease. It expands the interventional and diagnostic procedures offered at Newton-Wellesley and provides patients and referring clinicians unparalleled access and customer service.
All Newton-Wellesley cardiologists are board-certified or board-eligible and provide elective or urgent consultations as necessary. Diagnostic non-invasive testing includes multiple modes of 30-day and 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiography, exercise and pharmacologic stress testing with or without radionuclide imaging, and highly developed cardiac ultrasound imaging, either transthoracic or transeophageal with adjunctive contrast or exercise.
The Division also provides a full range of medical services for the treatment of valvular heart disease, acute and chronic ischemic syndromes, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, and coronary risk factors, particularly hyperlipidemia. Additional services include pacemaker implantation, anticoagulation and heart failure clinics, and rehabilitative preventive cardiology.
The Division of Cardiology is actively involved in the hospital’s medical education programs, both at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The service continues to participate in clinical cardiovascular research.
Newton-Wellesley Hospital has received the 2013 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®- Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes our commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke and heart failure patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
