Joint Reconstruction and Replacement Surgery
Serving communities throughout Greater Boston, we perform more than 4,000 surgical procedures every year. Our joint surgery facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical technology for the knee and hip. Procedures we routinely perform include:
Arthroscopy– Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that allows surgeons to treat joint damage through a small incision. Unlike open joint surgery, arthroscopic joint surgery does not require the joint to be completely opened, resulting in shorter operation and recovery times. Arthroscopic surgery performed at The Kaplan Center include hip and knee arthroscopies.
Arthroplasty– Also called total joint replacement, arthroplasty surgery is a procedure where the joint is replaced with a prosthesis. We routinely perform arthroplasty, or total joint replacement surgery, for the knee and hip. We also provide revision arthroplasty for both the knee and hip.
Osteotomy– Osteotomy surgery is performed to re-align, shorten or lengthen a bone to correct uneven joint damage, straighten a bone following a fracture or change the way joints bear weight in order to relieve the pain from conditions such as arthritis. Osteotomy surgeries performed at the Kaplan Center include high tibial osteotomy and hip osteotomy.
Hip Resurfacing– Hip resurfacing surgery can be a less invasive alternative to total hip replacement. With hip resurfacing surgery, a metal cap is inserted on to the head of the femur and the pelvis. The metal caps then serve as the hip joint, rubbing together when the hip is moved.
