Cosmetic Procedures After Surgery
Some of our patients at the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital become concerned about the hanging skin that can occur after massive weight loss.
Often, when a large amount of weight is lost in a short time, the skin does not shrink back to its original size. Folds of skin around the stomach, waist, back, arms, legs, breasts and neck are common. Body contouring plastic surgery can tighten this excess skin and help skin return to its original elasticity.
Every weight loss patient deals with their excess skin differently. Some patients wear their excess skin proudly, as a "badge of honor.” Others absolutely need to have it removed to be happy with themselves.
We are here to help you in your journey after surgery. We have a list of plastic surgeons who we recommend that you can request for a consultation.
If you decide to find a plastic surgeon on your own, however, please make sure it is a surgeon who is familiar with the needs of patients after massive weight loss.
