Over the past 11 years, the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Diabetes Management Program has grown from a small department to a full program recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
Programs recognized by the ADA must submit to a rigorous review process by diabetes experts who evaluate the ability to provide patients with a comprehensive, individualized education program.
Our team focuses on patients with pre-diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and insulin pumps. We also provide inpatient consults and offer group diabetes classes and a monthly support group.
Patients in our program learn essential self-management skills, including:
- behavioral change strategies
- blood glucose monitoring
- importance of physical activity
- insulin administration
- meal planning
- prevention of acute and chronic complications
- risk reduction
